It was a stylistic decision I made when writing the original stylesheet. If you don't want indentation, just change the stylesheet. pre.literal-block, pre.doctest-block { margin-left: 2em ; margin-right: 2em ; background-color: #eeeeee } I suspect that it's a similar situation in LaTeX.
