I am producing XSLT sylesheets to convert RST to FO, and then to PDF. I needed some guidance on the purpose behind the citations markup, and what is the expectation on how they should be rendered. The example: Here is a citation reference: [CIT2002]_. .. [CIT2002] This is the citation. It's just like a footnote, except the label is textual. doesn't allow for any page numbers. So let's say that you have the following document: As Powell notes, historic buildings have helped businesses [Powell2002]_ p33. To be sure, she doesn't overstate her case, but shows that preserving downtown areas can generate money [Powell2002]_ p33. Indeed, her statistics make a strong argument [Powell2002]_ p77. This should be rendered as As Powell notes, historic buildings have helped businesses^1. To be sure, she doesn't overstate her case, but shows that preserving downtown areas can generate money ^2. Indeed, her statistics make a strong argument ^3. ^1 Powell, *Preserving the Past.* Boston Press: Boston. 2002. P33 ^2 Ibid ^3 Ibid, p 77. Yet, there would be no way to do this, would there? If the page number could be associated with the citaion, then that would be possible. A renderer could look at the previous citation. If there was the same reference and page, then use ibid. If there was the same citation and a different page, use ibid plus the page. Thanks Paul Since |
