a few months ago I announced this project hosted at
http://transcribo.berlios.de. It has seen some progress since then. So I
thought I give a quick update.
The renderer package now features pagination with simple page numbering.
Fancier headers and footers are planned. The rST frontend (from Docutils'
perspective: a writer) supports a growing number of language features such
as nested lists, enumerations, block quotes, emphasis, strong and some
aspects of references. Dynamic page references are yet to be implemented,
though. As Transcribo will be used for Braille printing, it is planned to
use the class directive to customize the renderer, e.g. by switching between
translators, wrappers etc. Two dedicated Braille translators - YABT and
liblouis - are currently supported. Liblouis ships with more than 3 MB of
translation tables for many languages and Braille flavors.
Apart from rST I have just added a frontend for plain text input that does
some very basic formatting treating blank lines as paragraph separators.
Snapshots of the Mercurial repository are found at
http://hg.berlios.de/repos/transcribo/archive/tip.tar.bz2 or ...zip.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
