s5options.patch
|
Hi, attached is a patch to expose two basic s5 options via the rst2s5.py script: The defaultView (outline|slideshow) and controlVis (hidden|visible) meta options. The defaults are what the current code uses. cheers, stefan a little sidenote that bugs me at the moment: s5 uses nice slide# ids on the slide <div>s. docutils provides nice readable ids using the section title. but there can only be one id in xhtml. it would be great to have both... but I have no idea how to do it... two nested divs feels awkward, and putting one id on the <h1> feels wrong too. argh |

I'll apply the patch once I'm done with the template conversion I'm doing now. > a little sidenote that bugs me at the moment: > > s5 uses nice slide# ids on the slide <div>s. What's nice about them? They're inconsistent. Insert a new slide and your previous link is no longer correct. Why does this bug you? What's your rationale for wanting a change? > docutils provides nice readable ids using the section title. > but there can only be one id in xhtml. > > it would be great to have both... > but I have no idea how to do it... Do you need the slide# IDs for every slide? If not, just add a target wherever you need one: .. _slideX: > two nested divs feels awkward, Not at all; that would be a clean way to do it. > and putting one id on the <h1> feels wrong too. I was thinking about the writing process, when you need a way to reload the same slide over and over again. Looking at the slide number and typing '#slideX' seemed easier than thinking about how docutils transforms the section title into an id. But because the slide numbering can change, it would be better to add explicit targets anyway (as you point out), so I'll just use the slide titles. And to easily get to them during writing just include a `.. contents::` in the handout version, so you don't have to type anything. thanks for smacking my head :) |

[ra...@gm...] > [snip happy acceptance of my patch, although I think the option-names > need to be improved] I have checked in the changes, adding --view-mode (=3Dslideshow/outline) and --hidden-controls/--visible-controls options. I tried --view-mode=3Doutline though, and found that the slides didn't get \ rendered properly when I then switched. That's an S5 bug though. On a related issue, I'm trying to persuade Eric Meyer (S5's creator) to open up S5 (the project) along the lines of most open source projects; i.e. have a mailing list, a repository, and a bug tracker, and allow other developers to help out in a transparent way. Right now he's handling bug reports through direct email (but I haven't had responses to the mail I sent months ago) and comments in his blog. If you'd like to speed up S5's progress, please go to http://meyerweb.com/eric/thoughts/2006/02/27/s5-12a2/#comments and add your own thoughts. --=20 David Goodger <http://python.net/~goodger> |
