Getting the implementation of this feature right is not as simple as appending a wildcard and running a new search automatically on every keystroke. I can't go into the technical details, but it has something to do with the complexity of the query syntax and with starting and stopping simultaneously running search processes. So, no, this feature is probably not going to get implemented.

Yes, Google Desktop Search worked like this, but then, they had an army of programmers to make it happen. Also, in those smaller programs that offer realtime search, the query syntax is usually much simpler (like simple case-insensitive substring matching, for instance).
