for security: possibility to save indexes within indexed folders:
to make it even easier & saver to work with encrypted folders, on idea would be to have a simple setting which allows each index to be stored within the indexed folder.
Having this, the index is only accessible, readable & visible if also the folder is.

Would be good when working with truecrypt containers, via boxcryptor (cassic)encrypted dropbox-folders etc.

Because the pathes to the indexes have to be stored somewhere, the existence of the folder is not deniable, but one could not easily figure out what's inside....

=> What do you think?

    Hi,

    how about putting the portable version of DocFetcher in the TrueCrypt volume? Portable DocFetcher stores its indexes in the DocFetcher folder itself, so the indexes would also be in the TrueCrypt volume.

    Best regards

    Hi,

    thanks for fast response! Yes I know this solution & and it's working ok. The advantages of the proposed thing is, that
    - you do not need to have and maintain different "installations" and
    - you would be able to search global on all places simultaneously. Because sometimes you are not sure:
    did I put the file to the right folder? Is it maybe still in the download-folder? Did I store it on the wrong place?
    This in combination with trying several search phrases to find the wanted thing is not that comfortable...

    Best regards

    Then how about creating indexes outside the TrueCrypt volume, and then moving the indexes into the volume and placing NTFS junctions where the indexes used to be? Not sure if that works (it might break DocFetcher if any indexes are missing), but I guess it's worth a try.

    Other than that, I don't think built-in support for individually customizable index locations is a good idea, because it would add a lot of complexity, but would only benefit a very small number of users.

    Btw, note that you can customize the location of the folder containing the indexes by editing the file DocFetcher\misc\paths.txt.
