When I first downloaded it worked fine. I am running win 7 then it crashed. I uninstalled and reinstalled many many times. I've tried both version along with a whole host of other approaches but still get error messages about access being denied and something to do with a windows file missing or not being able to be accessed but the error pop-up happens too fast for me to read it.

Thank you, the portable version runs OK. However, it does not let me index a network drive. It allows me to select the drive on a NAS device, but when I click on 'Run', it reports, "File or Folder Not Found:". Can DocFetcher index network drives?

DocFetcher currently has a bug that prevents it from correctly handling UNC paths (i.e. paths starting with \\). A possible workaround is to mount the device as a network share.
DocFetcher 1.0.3 and earlier versions can deal with UNC paths, but are not supported anymore and have other bugs (and less features). You can find version 1.0.3 over here.

The UNC path bug has high priority, so I'll try to fix it for the next release. However, due to lack of time, I'm not sure when the next release will come out. Perhaps in a couple of months or so.
By the way, there's a section in the DocFetcher manual named 'Release Notification', which describes how you can set things up so that you'll receive a notification e-mail when the next DocFetcher release comes out.

One more question, I notice that if I enter a word that has less characters than a word that is in a file, DocFetcher won't locate it. For example, if the file has the word, "ABCDEFGH", and I search for "ABCDEF", DocFetcher does not find it. Is there a way to have DocFetcher find these partial matches?

Yes, there is. There's a section in the DocFetcher manual named "Query Syntax" that explains these things. For partial matches, you'll have to enter something like this: ABCDEF*

Hi Tran, we're very interested in using DocFetcher at our office, however we're waiting for the 'UNC path bug' to be fixed, so that we can use the latest version, instead of old 1.0.3. Would a donation help to move things along?

If the installer doesn't work at all, you can try the portable version instead, it can be run without installation.

If you're using portable DocFetcher, avoid unpacking the downloaded package in C:, C:\Program Files\ or any other Windows system folder.
By the way, please open a new bug report for this or start a new thread on the forum. Resurrecting old posts makes tracking the discussion difficult.

Where is the portable version? I don't see it anywhere on the website.
Go to the download page of the DocFetcher website and click on the 'docfetcher-1.1.5-portable.zip' link.

Hello. Is there an estimate when the current version UNC path bug will be fixed?

There's no need for that. I fixed the UNC path bug just yesterday, and intend to release a new DocFetcher version this week, bugfix included.
Great news Tran! I look forward to seeing the new version soon.
