As I'm trapped on java 1.5 (Apple refuses to update Intel 32bit systems with java 1.6) the fact that the JNLP indicated support from 1.5 onwards was positive. However, the Mac Executor code actually relies on a Mac component only introduced since version 2 of Apple's proprietary java 1.6 timeline, as described here...
https://sourceforge.net/projects/djproject/forums/forum/671154/topic/5047439

I need to be able to get an Executor through another route as otherwise I need to replace my whole machine to test-run a DJProject app which is in the end targeting Snow Leopard 32bit, but I can't even run it on my test machine (Leopard 32bit) because of this single 1.6 dependency.

At the very least, the JNLP should be updated to indicate a requirement for java 1.6 when targeting Mac, and therefore the 32bit Mac architecture should be removed as you've effectively discontinued support for it.
