Are you interested in solving the digital preservation problem? And are you willing to work for a library? Then this job might be something for you. The Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB, National Library of the Netherlands) is searching a new project leader for the emulation project to bring Dioscuri to the next level! The tasks will primarily consist of further improve and develop Dioscuri, define the future strategy for emulation in digital preservation and the KB together with other colleagues. And joint international projects like the European project Planets. Job profile - Education: university background - Skills in software development Java and XML - Skills in development methods (prototyping, UML) - Skills in project management methods (PRINCE2, RUP, Agile) - Able to translate technical specifications into functional software components - Able to translate technical information into common understanding - Excellent communication skills - Used to work as a team as well as substantive - Analytic, focused on result and incentive - Knowledge of digital preservation is desired - Willing to learn the Dutch language Our offer The job will require you to work at the KB. It is a temporary employment for maximum 32 hours a week until 1 January 2010. Parttime application is also possible. The job is valued at EURO 3,546.- maximum (based on full time employment of 40 hours and following the collective labour agreement, in Dutch CAO). The corporate culture at the KB is flexible and within certain boundaries you have the freedom to define your own working hours. Aside from that, the KB offers a lot of days off and you receive an annual fee at the end of each year. Dioscuri news update (March 2008) ===================================================== Dioscuri at CeBIT 2008 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------- Dioscuri will be present at the biggest IT exhibition of Europe: CeBIT. As digital preservation is a matter of the future, Dioscuri is situated in the future hall at the joint stand of Planets, Digital Preservation Europe (DPE), NESTOR and CASPER. From 4 - 9 March several demos will be given of Dioscuri, including its recently released 32-bit capabilities! Furthermore, two presentations on Friday, March 7th, will tell the story behind Dioscuri and overall Planets-activities. You can find us at stand B14, Hall 9. See you at CeBIT! New release 0.3.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------- Since 14th of February, a new release is out: Dioscuri version 0.3.0. This version supports both 16-bit and 32-bit processing and is capable of running MS Windows 3.0 and other 32-bit applications. The emulated 32-bit CPU is taken from the JPC project with whom the Dioscuri project team is cooperating. The new features of this release are: * 16-bit and 32-bit X86-based CPU (real-address and protected mode) * Added serial mouse support (experimental) * Added serial port (UART 16550A with COM-ports 1 to 4) * Fixed minor bugs in modules CPU, DMA, PIC * Updated GUI For an overview of the full change history, please check the change log. Note: 32-bit and mouse support are both still experimental. It might occur that some applications will not work correctly. At the moment we're improving the implementation of these components. The Dioscuri = project team was present with a special demostand. Attendees of the = conference could experience the old DOS-era offered by three computers = running Dioscuri and MS-DOS. It was possible to open and edit WP5.1 = documents, browse webpages with DOS-browser Arachne and play multiple = computer games which showed the versatility of Dioscuri. Dioscuri News - 3 September 2007 Dioscuri version 0.2.0 is out now! This release is capable of running various versions of MS-DOS, FreeDOS 0.9 Beta (included in package) and ELKS (Embeddable Linux Kernel Subset). The following improvements have been made: * Fixed minor bugs in CPU instructions and added some new instructions * Fixed keyboard status LEDs on GUI * Improved system timer and PIT * Improved GUI for image file selection * Improved keyboard controller for mouse/keyboard control * Added functionality to copy text to clipboard (text mode only) For a complete overview of all changes in recent versions, please check the changelog.
