Creating a Dictionary File

Žans Kļimovičs

Dictionary files are simple UTF-8 text files which can be created in any text editor.

For each exercise selected file(-s) are parsed by application, so that only lines in the following format are taken into consideration:

Word or sentence in a foreign language - Translation of the foreign word or sentence

Notice that the parts are separated with SPACE HYPHEN SPACE! Other lines that do not match this formatting are ignored. Therefore user is able to put i.e. topics or headers into dictionary files.

Words enclosed into parentheses are considered optional, and therefore can be omitted during the exercise. I.e. in Italian language subject pronouns can be omitted, thus for a line inside dictionary file like "(Io) sono - I am" any of the three answers "io sono", "sono" and "(io) sono" would be considered as correct.
