Hello. I've just completed the initial version of my DICT server, Jiten.
It is written entirely in Perl, and has a nice (IMO) scheme for writing
extensions for it (including both search strategies and database handlers).
It comes with support for dictd-style databases (uncompressed data only),
and 8 search strategies (exact, prefix, suffix, substring, regexp, soundex,
metaphone and levenshtein)
It is available from: http://ucsub.colorado.edu/~kominek/jiten/

If you can't do it in Perl,
you don't need to do it.
