I had this running for a few weeks to help with my Exalted game. It was
    working fantastically.

For some reason, it's no longer working. I've downloaded the new version. I'm
running it. And then the window snaps open just long enough for me to see it--
sometimes there's text, but there's not a Printscreen command in the world
fast enough to catch it--and then it closes again.

I'd really like to get this up and running again. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, I'm getting the same error, though I managed to catch what it says:
    "Failed to create Skype instance!"

Okay, seemed to fix it. First, go here:

    http://developer.skype.com/accessories

and get the Skype4COM.dll, then install that (put it in C:\windows\system32,
run cmd and type regsvr32 Skype4COM.dll)

Then, just run the dice roller and it should connect.

I'm having some serious issues with installing the diceroller in the first
place. When I download the extra through SourceForge and double-clicked on the
.exe file, I got Run/Don't Run window, clicked on the Run option, then
received a millisecond's blip of a new window opening before it closed again.
I've tried downloading the Skype4COM.dll file, and using the instructions you
laid out here, but it sounds like the .dll file might not be configured for
64-bit Windows, which I'm running. I also tried going into Skype's Advanced
Options to see if the Diceroller was being blocked, but it doesn't even show
in the list of programs trying to access Skype. A little help would be much
    appreciated. Thanks!

Mac, unfortunately I'm relatively unfamiliar with 64-bit anything, but I'm
going to have to step out on a limb and say my best guess is there's something
interfering with the exe. Maybe your antivirus or permissions? I'll do you a
solid and go looking and try and see if I can find anything, but no promises.
    Good luck!

Hey Mac. Sorry to hear you're having trouble. You might try opening a command
prompt and running the .exe file that way. That will send the output of the
program to the command prompt window, which will stay open because the .exe
was executed as a child process, not a master process (so to speak). See if
you get the same error message of "Failed to create Skype Instance."

Typically when I see this issue, it is because the .dll got unregistered after
a time, so what sinhound suggests would have been my first recourse. If I ever
come back to work on this project, my first action will be to include logging
so I can get more information about issues like this. If you have any
programming capability, you can take the source project and run it in debug to
    see what's up.

I can assure you that the .dll and program are configured to be able to run on
64-bit systems, considering it was programmed on a 64-bit machine.

I just uploaded a new version of the executable that should be a bit cleaner
on the output. I fixed a minor bug on the exit that caused an issue. I can't
guarantee it will fix the problem you are having, but it could, maybe?

The computer restart fixed everything and it now works. Thanks for the program!

I am having a similar problem. I have registered the DiceRoller and it shows up as allowed in the advanced menu in skype (It automatically didn't allow access and no prompt was given when trying to connect it the first time. I had to try and then go to the advanced settings and manually switch it to allowed). Now when I try and run the exe however I get "API connection refused" "Failed to run" which I assume is the same error for if skype did not allow it. Restarting Skype did not help so I will try tomorrow (it is quite late) after a computer restart and see if anything changes.

    -64 bit Windows7
    -Skype version 6.0.0.126

Ideas on how to get it to work?
