[Devmon] devmon won't start on Solaris 8

Installed devmon today on Solaris 8 machine. Starting devmon as the
Hobbit user with=20

su - hobbit -c "/usr/local/devmon/devmon"

Immediately afterward, "ps -ef | grep devmon" shows devmon running but
then the process is no longer in the process table after a 3-5 seconds.
My BBDISPLAY server isn't being updated, and there are ~no~ entires at
all the devmon log file. Nether does the system messages file give any
clues.=20

Hoping someone can shed some light on this issue? What could be the
cause o this problem? Possible solutions?
