It's my understanding that you can put them in administratively down
mode using IOS, or you can change your bb-hosts and do:

<ip>     host # DEVMON:thresh(if_stat;ifOperStatTxt;g:^down$)

Note that now when ever an interface is down on that router, it's not
going to go red. It's generally a good idea to always admin down
interfaces - both for security and managability:)
