Hi, on the cisco switches monitored by devmon in the if_load table I have sometimes negativ values like this: -77066719.00 bps (-77.07%) These values or not persistent. Next cycle the load is calculated correct but another port has a negativ value. This is not bound to a specific device; instead happens on all switches. So I think there maybe some trouble/glitch with the math arithmetic in a module. Do you have an idea about the root cause of that..? Regards Johann |

Yes I will. Though it may take a while if I cant see what's causing this threshold problem! Normal ones work its just the ones I'm writing in the tables. Will try again tomorrow. Sounds like a good idea. Currently confused as ive copied the cisco if_col template for NetApp quotas, its showing fine but my thresholds don't appear to be picked up. qrPercentUsed is a percent taken from bytesused/bytestotalx100 Threshold: qrPercentUsed : red : 80 : WARNING Message:=20 TABLE: [otherbits]|{qrPercentUsed.color}{qrPercentUsed}{qrPercentUsed.errors} One of the quotas is at 82.59 % and isn't showing up. I don't know why it's not working the same as the network equipment, weird! Craig -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Subject: RE: [Devmon] Starting problem Well, right now the results of any math calculations (via=20 DELTA or MATH transforms) done by Devmon are rounded to two decimal places. I might add a 'precision' tag or something similar to either or both of these operations to allow you to get more or less detail as needed. Right now, if you have a=20 snmp alias that has excessive numbers after the decimal place, you can lop them off by doing a MATH transform on the alias. So, if you have an alias {tooManyNumbers} with a value of 11.324125, this transform: {lessNumbers} : MATH : {tooManyNumbers} will round it down to 11.32 and store it in the "lessNumbers" alias. Actually, I just had a thought; what about making the MATH and DELTA aliases not round at all, and then added a separate ROUND transform or somesuch that would allow people to round their values to whatever they liked? Excellent hobbit enhancement which will get rid of quite a few Perl scripts when I've finished writing all the templates. =20 I have been running it as a foreground process with the -f switch but without this I am also getting "Can't fork: Inappropriate ioctl for device" Forking to background process *****". This is on RHEL3 again. =20 For APC UPS's you may want to copy the power stuff over to a model 9617 as this is what all my management card equipped UPS's show as so it might be a popular one (?). They are 3000 and 5000 models.=20 =20 A problem I now have though is how devices are discovered as a certain type. I have a script that monitors free dhcp addresses on Windows boxes. If it just looks up model there Is nothing special about this box. Im not sure how I can get around this but I would need to put an exception in for all other windows boxes I monitor so it doesn't try to show dhcp free addresses for them. =20 Keep up the good work though :-) =20 Craig Whilding |

Reading my mind. I was actually on the same page as that would be a perfect way to do NCV with hobbit. You could simply set your put these lines on the bottom of your message template file: NONHTMLTABLE: <!-- NCV --> <!-- ifInLoad : {ifInLoad} --> NONHTMLTABLE: <!-- NCV --> <!-- ifOutLoad : {ifOutLoad} --> And do your appropriate configuration in hobbit and just like that, you'll be graphing. I am eager to see this feature as well. Thanks Dan On 3/3/06, Schwimmer, Eric E *HS <EE...@hs...> wrote: > > Ah yes. Ah yes. We suffer the same problem /w textualized html alert emails. I wouldn't mind implementing textual tables in devmon (it would be=20 rather trivial to do) but I'm already sensitive about how long it takes to perform the test logic (way too long, imho, and I=20 havent found a good way to revamp the whole template process that would generate a worthy speed increase). I guess anyway to get a 'pure' text table would be expensive. Whether sprintf was used or space padding the columns manually.. i.e " " x ($ColSize - len($DataSize)). Some of my biasness aginst the HTML, is the BB alert emails we get are not very pleasant to read since the emails are text format. Would this be for multi column formats? I was curious if there is a non-HTML TABLE format. Some of the reports I do, it is prefered not to do it with a HTML table. If not, I would be happy to put something together. I can just peak at your code for how the existing TABLE format is generated. General format I would think for a TABLETXT format would to loop through headers & row data text sizes to come up with the maximum column length. The generate the text table with a '-------' line between header & data rows. Steven |

Is hobbit/NCV support in devmon on the drawing board? I'd like to get some of these things in graphs (temp, if_load), and it doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to do it. How likely does it look? Thanks Dan |

Hmm, it appears I was wrong (or right, actually). On the instructions I gave you, I never said I restarted the devmon server - though I'm pretty sure I did. Anyway, I killed them all again, started it, and it appears to all be working now. Sorry I didn't catch that email from before, as I would have upgraded and this wouldn't have been a problem. Hi Pat, If you want to monitor the same ifcs in the if_stat test on all of your cisco switches, you can probably just get away with changing the 'exception' file in the if_stat template to match whichever ifcs that you would like monitored. Note that you will have to do this for every switch model that you would like customized. Otherwise, if you need to monitor different ifcs on all of your switches, you can manage this through the use of the except() option for your DEVMON tag in the bb-hosts file. Please read the docs/USING or docs/using.html file to get the low-down on how to use this option. Regards, -Eric > -----Original Message----- > From: dev...@li...=20 > [mailto:dev...@li...] On Behalf=20 > Of PN...@ci... > Sent: Thursday, March 02, 2006 12:54 PM > To: dev...@li... > Subject: [Devmon] Cisco and Unpopulated GBIC interfaces >=20 > Hey all, > Just installed DevMon and started putting my cisco switches=20 > in and it's > reporting unpopulated GBIC slots as down. >=20 > Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this? >=20 > --Pat >=20 >=20 > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by xPML, a groundbreaking=20 > scripting language > that extends applications into web and mobile media. It's my understanding that you can put them in administratively down mode using IOS, or you can change your bb-hosts and do: <ip> host # DEVMON:thresh(if_stat;ifOperStatTxt;g:^down$) Note that now when ever an interface is down on that router, it's not going to go red. It's generally a good idea to always admin down interfaces - both for security and managability:) -Dan On 3/2/06, PN...@ci... <PN...@ci...> wrote: > Hey all, > Just installed DevMon and started putting my cisco switches in and it's > reporting unpopulated GBIC slots as down. > > Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this? > > --Pat > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by xPML, a groundbreaking scripting langua= ge > that extends applications into web and mobile media. And actually, you really shouldn't have a value that high unless one of 3 things occurs : 1) You are delta transforming on a 64bit oid that has wrapped 2) You are delta transforming an already transformed 32bit oid, without specifying a viable upper-limit 3) Theres a yet another bug in the Devmon code. Could you send me the contents of your 7609 if_load oid and transforms files? -Eric =20 p.s. I've noticed that lately I've really been digging the numbered lists.
