Just downloaded the devil-linux-1.6.0-RC3-i686.tar.bz2, untarred and
then booted the boot.iso with qemu to test. But what is the default
login and password for root and user if any?

However, I am expecting to learn the difference between the two
flavors (server.tar.bz2 and tar.bz2)!
