Not arbitrary. But if the driver included with the kernel matches the card 
chip (and they are the majority), it is usually sufficient. Exceptionally, 
when the chip used on card (even working with the driver included with the 
kernel) for optimal performance requires a dedicated driver, I'm writing a 
script to compile and install and then recompile all DL.
