Jiri, yes, I think it's possible. I work on 2.6.37 now - and I think 2.6.36.x should not be a problem either. PS. Happy to know that it works for you! Did you try sheepdog? It works perfectly. I'm going to add init scripts for corosync and sheepdog, then sheepdog-cluster support to kvmctl.
