One nice thing about using a physical floppy or write-protected USB on a physical DL instance was that even if you were to get hacked, unless someone physically had access then a reboot could cure most ills. Not that it happened to us, touch wood. I tried logging into the esx box and setting the permissions for the .flp file which is the disk image to u+r. But I was interested to note that when I ran save-config Vmware permitted overwrote my floppy image apparently ignoring the lack of any write permission! Bit scary!
