Since syslog-ng is the default logger on DL (IMHO) I send Apache-Logs to the logger like this: ErrorLog "| logger -t apache2 -p daemon.err"

Then there is no need to bother the apache of changes to the logfiles.

I checked against 1.3 and there's no /var/run/httpd.pid file when
apache is running.
I don't have any 1.2 system anymore, can someone please check?
