2 alternatives I think:
1. use the long-form syntax when creating the LV, something like:
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 (this is for /dev/hda1). I
am not sure of the correct long-form syntax for hdc1 - I think one
of 'host', 'bus' or 'target' should be followed by a 1 not a 0.
2. use Devil Linux 1.3.x, available from (for instance)
ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/devil-linux/devel/testing/.
This is based on the 2.6 Linux kernel and the normal syntax works
okay, also it creates LVM2 PVs and LVs which are more powerful and
flexible (e.g. better optimised for bigger volumes and allow
read/write snapshots).
