Hmmm. Maybe there is an issue creating LVM2 volume groups (pvcreate with 
-M2 switch) on DL 1.2, although I don't see why? It works for me on DL 
1.3. But LVM1 volume groups (i.e. pvcreate without the -M2 switch) 
definitely should work on DL1.2, because that was my original setup (and 
the volume group on my production DL server is still LVM1 in fact).

Or perhaps your difficulties with LVM and reiserfs will just have to 
remain one of life's hidden mysteries.
