Dom Thanks for your suggestions... I managed to fix the problem, but I will record the issues in more detail here in case anyone has the same problem. I was unable to type anything once the login prompt came up, could not log in. I could log in through SSH using putty. The keyboard would work fine until the moment it did the system-up beeps. I know this because it would display ^] characters if I held down the escape key, but would stop once the beeps started. It was not a keyboard issue (as far as I could tell, it worked fine until the login prompt appeared). The keyboard is a standard PS/2 Dell keyboard with media buttons on the top. For some reason, once I plugged in a mouse to the system, everything worked fine. Linux Kernel 2.4.36.6 Devil-Linux V1.2.15-i686-SMP Now I just need to figure out why DL isn't playing nice with my windows boxes. This is my first time using a linux setup, so I expect that I will be posting questions/problems here a fair bit over the coming week or so.
