The changes in this release are as follows:
The AC_AUTOCONF_VERSION, AC_OPENMP, and AC_PATH_PROGS_FEATURE_CHECK
macros were added. AC_C_BIGENDIAN now supports universal binaries like
those used by Mac OS X. Performance was improved. Many bugfixes and
enhancements were made.

Autoconf is an extensible package of m4 macros that produce shell
scripts to automatically configure software source code packages.
These scripts can adapt the package to many kinds of UNIX-like systems
without manual user intervention.
