The LPF filter (like BPF for the BSDs) is used to keep CPU time down to a minimum. Annoying ICMP unreachable messages on Linux were fixed. STAILQ is used instead of custom linked lists. It gets an IP address and other information from the DHCP server, automatically configures the network interface, and tries to renew the lease time according to RFC2131 or RFC1541.
