I am presently using 1.2.10-i686-SMP. I tried with the new
1.3.4-i586-2007-12-27 but at boot time I got this ugly message:

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

And the computer hung. Sorry I didn't write down the earlier messages
but I could have another go if it would help. I rebooted with the
1.2.10-i686-SMP CD and all was well again (including my heart rate!)
