This I didn't know. Good news, and not entirely surprising.

Perhaps that this can regularly be incorporated in DL...

Not only seems, but it really is. I've been doing it 2+ years on several 
ESX Servers without any problems.

These are my experiences, too.
Due to that, I always create one DL VM for a certain purpose.
One for OpenVPN, one for mail filtering, one for DNS, one for firewall, 
etc. I run VMs like applications or services.
