Unfortunately they don't really port much back to the 2.4 Kernel.
And I'm still very reluctant to go with Kernel 2.6, since it has so many
security problems.

I did a quick googling around and this seems to be a general problem.
I saw some people talking about an "AHCI" driver and mode. Maybe that helps.
