Dear freshmeat.net subscriber, sempre just announced version 2.7 beta 1 of Python on freshmeat.net. The changes are as follows: New features include an ordered dictionary type, new unittest features including test skipping and new assert methods, a much faster io module, automatic numbering of fields in the str.format() method, float repr improvements backported from 3.x, tile support for Tkinter, a backport of the memoryview object from 3.x, set literals, dictionary views, a new syntax for nested "with" statements, and the sysconfig module. Project description: Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. It combines remarkable power with very clear syntax, and isn't difficult to learn. It has modules, classes, exceptions, very high level data types, and dynamic typing. There are interfaces to many system calls and libraries, as well as to various windowing systems (Tk, Mac, MFC, GTK+, Qt, wxWindows). New built-in modules are easily written in C or C++. Python is also usable as an extension language for applications that need a programmable interface.
