Dear freshmeat.net subscriber, astyanax just announced version 2.1.99pre2 of GNU nano on freshmeat.net. The changes are as follows: Included are some (hopefully final) fixes for issues with last page display caused by the soft wrapping code and a fix for a long-standing issue with hitting the home key when going through the search history. On the features front, nano will now attempt to retain the proper ownership and permissions when trying to create a .save file due to receiving a signal. Nano can also now unbind keys from one or more menus via the "unbind" keyword. Finally, passing --fill or --nowrap on the command line will now override any related .nanorc entries. Project description: GNU nano (Nano's ANOther editor, or Not ANOther editor) is an enhanced clone of the Pico text editor. Dear freshmeat.net subscriber, schily just announced version 2.01.01a68 of cdrtools on freshmeat.net. The changes are as follows: This release adds better VMS support (e.g., to avoid hanging in "configure" with vfork()). libscg now compiles on Apple's "Snow Leopard". cdrecord has added a workaround for a NEC firmware oddity with DVD+RW to allow rewriting media written by other writers. This release avoids a wrong assert() abort with cdrecord when in -interactive mode (this mode was introduced for "libcdda2wavsrc" to create a legal backend for programs like sound-juicer). Mkisofs again prints all informational messages on stderr to avoid mixing with the filesystem output. Isoinfo now supports iconv()-based locales for decoding Joliet filenames. Project description: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW, TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD writers. Under heavy load, new FTP sessions could sometimes get disconnected right way. This is now fixed. If you saw "OOPS: child died" just after connecting, it was likely this bug. Project description: vsftpd is a secure and fast FTP server for UNIX-like systems that is used on many large and critical Internet sites. Its rich feature set includes SSL encryption, IPv6, bandwidth throttling, PAM integration, virtual users, virtual IPs and per-user / per-IP configuration. Dear freshmeat.net subscriber, godard just announced version 9.0.6 of sysstat on freshmeat.net. The changes are as follows: It is now possible to specify a starting and ending time with sadf -x (this option displays sar data in XML). Interval and count parameters are also taken into account. sar and sadf sometimes didn't handle COMMENT records properly: This is now fixed. The HZ variable was not explicitly set in sadc.c: This has been fixed too. sargraph (a shell script used to make graphs based on sadf XML output) has been added. Project description: The sysstat package contains the sar, sadf, iostat, mpstat, and pidstat commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity information. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel activities, and TTY statistics, among others. The sadf command may be used to display data collected by sar in various formats. The iostat command reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The pidstat command reports statistics for Linux processes. The mpstat command reports global and per-processor statistics. Dear freshmeat.net subscriber, easysw just announced version 1.4.2 of CUPS on freshmeat.net. The changes are as follows: This release fixes a Web interface security issue and several build issues. Project description: CUPS is a standards-based printing system for Mac OS X and other Unix-like operating systems. It provides the System V and Berkeley command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP") as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon (LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect) protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. Dear freshmeat.net subscriber, mtrojnar just announced version 4.28 of Stunnel on freshmeat.net. The changes are as follows: A serious bug in asynchronous shutdown code was fixed. Win32 DLLs have been added for OpenSSL 0.9.8l. Transparent proxy support was added for Linux kernels >=2.6.28. Project description: The stunnel program is designed to work as an SSL encryption wrapper between remote client and local (inetd-startable) or remote server. It can be used to add SSL functionality to commonly used inetd daemons like POP2, POP3, and IMAP servers without any changes in the programs' code. It will negotiate an SSL connection using the OpenSSL or SSLeay libraries. A security vulnerability on Linux host (reported as CVE-2009-3733) was resolved, which allowed directory traversal. An issue with the WLK DiskStress test on the LSI Logic virtual device was fixed. An issue hindering the vmnet-bridge service from being run in the foreground was fixed. Project description: VMware allows you to run 'virtual machines' inside a Linux host. It is not an emulator. It provides a virtual computer within the host which can boot whichever OS you decide to put on the filesystem image that is used as a harddrive. It will run DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Win9x, WinNT/2000/XP/2003, Linux, Novell, and more. The only main requirement is a 400 MHz or better machine, along with lots of RAM (128M minimum, 256M recommended).
