Dear freshmeat.net subscriber, iro just announced version 2.5.4 of grep on freshmeat.net. The changes are as follows: This is primarily a bugfix release. Project description: GNU grep is based on a fast lazy-state deterministic matcher (about twice as fast as stock Unix egrep) hybridized with a Boyer-Moore-Gosper search for a fixed string that eliminates impossible text from being considered by the full regexp matcher without necessarily having to look at every character. The result is typically many times faster than Unix grep or egrep. Dear freshmeat.net subscriber, iro just announced version 5.0.0 of GNU MP on freshmeat.net. The changes are as follows: This version includes new features and speedups. Project description: GMP is a free library for arbitrary precision arithmetic, operating on signed integers, rational numbers, and floating point numbers. There is no limit to the precision, except for the ones implied by available memory. It has a rich set of functions, and the functions have a regular interface. It is designed to be as fast as possible, both for small operands and for huge operands. The speed is achieved by using fullwords as the basic arithmetic type, by using fast algorithms with carefully optimized assembly code for the most common inner loops for a lot of CPUs, and by a general emphasis on speed (instead of simplicity or elegance). It is believed to be faster than any other similar library. The advantage increases with the operand sizes for certain operations, since GMP in many cases has asymptotically faster algorithms. Bash also incorporates useful features from the Korn and C shells (ksh and csh). Bash is intended to be a conforming implementation of the IEEE POSIX Shell and Tools specification (IEEE Working Group 1003.2).
