Frank, I checked the driver in the kernel and it seems it was correctly compiled. It also includes the correct PCI ID. We might be missing a dependency or something else is off. Let's try and narrow this down. Do you see any messages in the logs about e1000 or igb? What do you see on the other distro? Frank, Sorry, I didn't realize you were asking about the NIC support for DL 1.6.9. I assume we're simply missing the proper kernel support there, since it's a much older Kernel. Are you good with using 1.8 ? I might get away with 1.8 at the first place I will deploy the new hardware. However, I had a few minutes to look into it on Friday, an I saw that squid wont start: I stops with an error I don't recall exactly and it logs a grsec error.
grsec illegal instruction occured)
I can give you the exact wording next week, but I believe it is easy to reproduce, as it does this even with
squid --help and anything I've tried.

Hi Heiko, luckily, I had a build started on Friday :-) Yes, squid seems to be OK. On the heartbeat front, I am stuck. If I understand this correctly, the heartbeat included (3.0.6) needs several other packages from clusterlabs (libQB, CoroSync and Pacemaker) From there on it spirals out of control (for me, at least): something needs nss libraries, which need something else.... Was there a specific reason to jump to a newer version of heartbeat? Maybe the older version was simpler to integrate... Frank, Glad to hear that squid is working again for you. If I remember correctly, the old heartbeat didn't want to compile with all the new libs and gcc. I thought I had added everything they had on the heartbeat website. Which specific functionality do you need that needs more packages? Hi Heiko, as I understand it, heartbeat is in fact only the communication layer, even though it contains an extremely basic (not useful) resource manager. In DL-1.6.x/Heartbeat 2.1.4, there was resource manager included, which I have used so far. The cluster uses a cib (cluster information base), and you can dynamically add resources, build groups, (co-)location constraints, migrate resources between nodes... There is a small collection of crm_... binaries plus cibadmin that are needed. (all this stuff was in Heartbeat-STABLE-2-1-STABLE-2.1.4/crm/ in the 1.6.x sources) a very basic config file looks like this: bcast eth0 auto_failback on node xxx-1 node xxx-2 crm yes auto_failback on debugfile /var/log/ha-debug If I try to start the cluster, it bails out because it cant find the required binaries: # /etc/init.d/heartbeat start Starting High-Availability services: Heartbeat failure [rc=6]. Frank, You were correct, the packages like pacemaker and corosync are now required. I grabbed everything from the linux-ha website for 1.8, before they made the announcement that the new standard is pacemaker + corosync. I added that to DL and removed the now outdated heartbeat. The init scripts do need some more tweaking, but I won't have any more time this weekend to work on it. It should be good enough for you to run a compile and do some testing. Hi Heiko, I can confirm that it builds, and the services seem to start. I have yet to figure out how to use the new cluster stack, however, as this will be completely different from the good-ole heartbeat-1 stuff. I hope that I'll get some time to look into this this or next week. I'll let you know....
