It's been awful quiet on this list recently. To see if it's still working I thought I'd suggest the inclusion into DL of a tool that I've just discovered. There's a program called multitail (http://www.vanheusden.com/multitail/index.html) that allows you to tail more than one file (e.g. logfiles) at once either into separate ncurses 'windows' or merge into one window. Can also colourise and other tricks. Looks useful to me. Anyway Happy New Year to all DLers. Dick |

>From me also a Happy New Year to everyone I don't know about others, but I won't have time to work on it. I'm already trying for weeks to get a few program updates in 1.3, but it's progressing very slowly. Why does have the real world always have to interfere with the fun? ;-) Heiko -----Original Message----- From: Dick Middleton [mailto:di...@fo...] Sent: Monday, December 29, 2008 4:07 PM To: dev...@li... Hello colleagues, I have tried to make a present for myself and other DL fans by XMas (later by NY) with massive features update for 1.3... It looks like I'll do it only after my vacation (in a week). What I've made already: - kernel 2.6.27.x (2.6.27.10) because it was announced as a LTS kernel. - update of a couple tens of packages - emphasis on NAS/SAN features - new network block device (iSCSI and DST), new network file system (a-la pNFS) - unfortunately without init files yet. - a few build system cleanups in order to handle dependencies more correctly - workaround for the mysterious bug with coping DL image to RAM (I guess it's something with rounding of an allocated size calculation). - etc Stay tuned! Hi all, Firstly can I just say, what a fantastic piece of software Devil-Linux is. I just love the way it just works. Now the reason I'm mailing the list is I want to ask if there is any way of adding a torrent client to the OS?? The other thing I'm wondering is, is there any way of adding Mplayer to the distro, not because I want to watch any thing, but because I've found the great script written by Phil Lewis that allows you to download things from BBC IPlayer and ITV CatchUp but the problem is that to get the ITV content it has to use Mplayer, hence my problem. Thanks in advance for any help/input. Chris. |

You can (fairly) easily add software to DL. Take a look at our documentation on the website on how to compile your own version, that's where you'll have to start. Then you'll have to fight your way through figuring out how we do things and then add your own stuff. Please sign up on the developer mailinglist if you have any questions related to building/customizing DL. Chris. One problem you may run into with mplayer, is DL doesn't have any X libraries. I don't know if it's possible to build mplayer without X11. - BS |

Getting a bit OT, but definitely, mplayer will build without X11. I am running mplayer as part of a music server on a hacked network hard drive at home. Geexbox is a non X environment built on mplayer so I agree building it without X11 should work. The only problem I have now is how?? Guess I'd better start reading lol. Thanks for all the input.
