Kari, VMware have recently released an open source version of their VMware Tools. Perhaps that this can regularly be incorporated in DL... VMware seems like an excellent platform to run DL in. I am not sure how many people out there run DL in an ESX environment, but my tests have shown that a VM running a fresh install of DL uses only about 40MB RAM and about 100MHz of CPU cycles. Please have a look at the VMware website regarding the open source project: http://www.vmware.com/resources/opensource/projects.html And here is a link to the actual project, where the tools can be downloaded: http://open-vm-tools.sourceforge.net/ Regards, /|/|arc. |

These are my experiences, too. Due to that, I always create one DL VM for a certain purpose. One for OpenVPN, one for mail filtering, one for DNS, one for firewall, etc. I run VMs like applications or services. Rather cool :-) > Please have a look at the VMware website regarding the open source project: > > http://www.vmware.com/resources/opensource/projects.html > > And here is a link to the actual project, where the tools can be downloaded: > > http://open-vm-tools.sourceforge.net/ > > Regards, /|/|arc. //Kari |

I too run 2 copies in VMs on ESX and for the most part it works great, but = I have problems with network traffic going from a one interface to another = when the interfaces have different VLAN configurations. E.g. from a trunk i= nterface to a non-trunked interface, Guest Tagging of VLAN packets, UDP tr= affic suffers greatly. No problems if both are trunk ports, or both are non= -trunked. Have not got round to testing the latest DL too see if it has the same issu= e. Regards, John Jore ________________________________________ From: dev...@li... I alreday have it on my todo list, I hope I'll get to it soon. Since I'm a heavy VMWare (Server) user, I'll add it to both versions. > VMware > >> seems like an excellent platform to run DL in. > > Not only seems, but it really is. The only problem with VMWare Server is that it's slower. But I'm already eying an upgrade for my server (donations are welcome ;-) ). >> Please have a look at the VMware website regarding the open source >> project: >> >> >> http://www.vmware.com/resources/opensource/projects.html >> >> >> And here is a link to the actual project, where the tools can be >> downloaded: >> >> >> http://open-vm-tools.sourceforge.net/ -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org |

It seems the open-vm-tools still has a few bugs. I reported the problems, let's hope they fix it soon. -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org |
