Hello, to avoid the usage of mechanical storage devices we are planning to install DL on a Compact Flash card. Both, the OS image and the configuration should be stored on the card. Security is not a major issue, since in this application DL will be used as an internal router (in dusty environment). Is there a brief installation instruction available to install it like that? Thank you. -- R. Cirksena <ci...@ho...> Holmberg GmbH & Co. KG |

Thank you. Hi, I use this on 35+ machines, it works like a charm. You should try the=20 install-on-usb script that comes with DL. (on my desktop system the script= =20 doesn't work because it tries to copy grub to a temporarily mounted place a= nd=20 run it from there) If you can't get this to work, and if you have 512 MB CF cards, I can send = you=20 a dd image. Or make it available for download. Basically, all you need is: install grub on the CF card, copy bootcd.iso, DEVIL-LINUX and LICENSE to it copy a /boot to it, with all the stuff a normal GRUB system has. It just makes it a little easier when you come to upgrade the OS or if you want to copy the config to another machine. I use 256Mb USB sticks each partitioned with a large and small partiton so they can be interchanged. I use a CF card for the hard-drive. It's not supposed to be a good idea (card life) but it's been working fine for me for 18mths or more. Dick |

I have a "real" PC running Linux with CF slot available. Therefor it should not be a problem to copy the configuration if necessary. > I use 256Mb USB sticks each partitioned with a large and small partiton > so they can be interchanged. One large partition for the OS and a small partition for the configuration will be o.k. here. > I use a CF card for the hard-drive. I keep my configuration on a USB stick. When I want to (remotely) upgrade, I copy the new bootcd.iso to the 'inacti= ve'=20 partition on the Flash Card, copy a vmlinuz and an initrd.gz to the boot=20 directory (renaming them in order not to overwrite the existing ones. I then create a new grub entry that selects the new (vmlinuz, initrd.gz, bootcd.iso, etc.tar.bz2) set using the handy=20 DL_config and DL_device command-line args. If the upgrade should fail (hasn't happened= =20 yet) I'd need to talk a local guy through hooking up a keyboard/monitor, an= d=20 selecting the old grub entry. =46rank > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Using Tomcat but need to do more?
