Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to redirect output from tty10 to the ssh session I'm in. I want to see the syslog-ng output in real-time. I'm logged into my devil-linux firewall via ssh, and just want to see what's going to tty10 for a relatively short period of time, or perhaps redirect to a file, but not permanently. I know I can change the syslog-ng.conf file to change the behavior, and someday perhaps I'll send it to a log machine, but this is just for now. How? I'm not linux savvy, yet. So, it's obvious that: more < /dev/tty10 Doesn't work :-) Please assist this poor pathetic linux newbie. I tried looking at Terminal HOWTO, etc. to no avail. Thanks!!! --Steven |

Easiest way to do it is to install syslog-ng on another computer and then configure the log output of your DL box into this "other" computer. The syslog-ng.conf has all the settings you need commented out. Uncomment them and modify them as per your needs. You will have to modify the "other" computer's syslog-ng file to create a log file, and to open a socket to listen to. You will have to modify the DL box to send its log files to the "other" computer at the predetermined port/protocol settings. There must be a way to simply redirect what's going to tty10 to the console. I intend to do just what you say, but this is just so I can look at the log right now. I don't have another Linux box handy, just a putty client on my windows box. I know that Linux is a redirection champion, so... Thanks for your kind reply. --Steven >-----Original Message----- >From: dev...@li... >[mailto:dev...@li...] On >Behalf Of Peter Frischknecht >Sent: Monday, August 16, 2004 1:24 PM >To: dev...@li... >Subject: Re: [Devil-Linux-discuss] Console (tty10) redirection > >Easiest way to do it is to install syslog-ng on another >computer and then configure the log output of your DL box into >this "other" computer. > >The syslog-ng.conf has all the settings you need commented out. >Uncomment them and modify them as per your needs. > >You will have to modify the "other" computer's syslog-ng file >to create a log file, and to open a socket to listen to. >You will have to modify the DL box to send its log files to the "other" >computer at the predetermined port/protocol settings. > >Peter > >On Mon, 2004-08-16 at 15:42, Steven Hodgen wrote: >> Hi, >> >> I'm trying to figure out how to redirect output from tty10 >to the ssh >> session I'm in. >> >> I want to see the syslog-ng output in real-time.
