Hallo Heiko,
I might get away with 1.8 at the first place I will deploy the new hardware. However, I had a few minutes to look into it on Friday, an I saw that squid wont start: I stops with an error I don't recall exactly and it logs a grsec error.
grsec illegal instruction occured)
I can give you the exact wording next week, but I believe it is easy to reproduce, as it does this even with
squid --help and anything I've tried.

Frank, I checked the driver in the kernel and it seems it was correctly compiled. It also includes the correct PCI ID. We might be missing a dependency or something else is off. Let's try and narrow this down. Do you see any messages in the logs about e1000 or igb? What do you see on the other distro? Udo, It seems that it doesn't like something related to grsecurity. You could try and setting everything to 0 in /etc/sysconfig/grsecurity.proc. The settings get applied at the end of the boot process. This way we could at least attempt to track down what's affecting it during runtime. The devil-linux VM start, but is extremly slowly - use 100%cpu and need app. 3 hours to boot with 1 CPU and automatic config upgrade. Hi Heiko, I use proxmox-ve (http://proxmox.com/en/downloads/category/iso-images-pve) for virtualisation (easy solution if you have an free box for test). It's not depend on the qemu-version - it's the same with 2.2 and 2.4. Udo, I just downloaded QEMU and tested this and I see a different behavior. But I'm also new, so I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. I don't see a vd0 device at all, the harddisk I configured showed up as hda. What's the command line you use to start it? I also added a message now that tells if it detects QEMU and loads the modules. It correctly loaded them on during my test. Which version of QEMU are you using? I downloaded 2.5.
