I want openvpn to start as a deamon at startup. I wrote a small sh file that I want to execute when Devil starts up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the sh file: #!/bin/sh cd /etc/openvpn/ openvpn --daemon --config /etc/openvpn/openvpn.conf --log /etc/mnt/hd/log/openvpn.log ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I made an entry in boot.local that points to that sh file. This is the entry: /etc/openvpn/openvpnStart.sh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My openvpn.log is giving me this error: OpenVPN 2.1 requires '--script-security 2' or higher to call user-defined scripts or executables Cannot open TUN/TAP dev /dev/net/tun: No such file or directory (errno=2) Attempting fallback to kernel 2.2 TUN/TAP interface Cannot allocate TUN/TAP dev dynamically ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If I execute the command: openvpn --daemon --config /etc/openvpn/openvpn.conf --log /etc/mnt/hd/log/openvpn.log After the system boots up, it executes correctly and without issues. Is there something I am missing? Am I pointing to the sh file incorrectly in boot.local? Should it be elsewhere? Any and all help is welcome. Thanks! -- James E. Kessler |

Hello, unfortunately, the kernel I used is not good. See details here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16588 So, if your kernel is "freezing, crashing, oopsing" please download a new image with updated kernel. PS. The image is a bit heavier because I added several packages to test. Does Devil-Linux have, or can we get, a deep packet inspection software installed? I think they both have to be compiled into the kernel. I've found these two open-source projects: * http://l7-filter.clearfoundation.com/ * http://www.opendpi.org/opendpi.org/index.html l7-filter looked the better to me, but I'm not exactly sure on how to use it yet. -- Thanks, Brad Landis |

Hi Dominic, I agree about the block sizes. What I forgot to mention is that there are 7 IDE drives in total in the machine including the 400Gb but its only the 400Gb that's giving the error. I've just noticed that Webmin is reporting me to have 3.16Gb of memory which is a bit odd. I'll take the server offline tonight and run memtest as you suggested and see if it throws up any errors. Thanks again, Chris. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Dominic Raferd" <dl...@ed...> Sent: Monday, August 16, 2010 4:10 PM To: <dev...@li...> Subject: Re: [Devil-Linux-discuss] attempt to access beyond end of device > Hi Chris > > This is all new to me, but it does seem that the limit figure reported > is about right for a 400GB drive if the blocks are 512 bytes each, > whereas the 'want' figure is excessively high. Hi Chris This is all new to me, but it does seem that the limit figure reported is about right for a 400GB drive if the blocks are 512 bytes each, whereas the 'want' figure is excessively high. So it looks as if something (probably some metadata on the disk, like directory entry or control block) is pointing to a completely invalid location. Could be caused by damaged meta-information (filesystem structure data) on the disk, or possibly bad RAM chips. At boot time DL offers a memory test option, could you run this overnight? Hello. I would like to know, why dansguardian is not compiled with support of clamd (clamav). I am trying to build proxy with content filtering (squid + dansguardian + clamav) and I hit the wall when I noticed that ClamAV scanning is not compiled into dansguardian. I am testing this on DL 1.4RC4 version. And one notice at the end. I found that the utility squid_ldap_auth is compiled with squid but utility squid_ldap_group not. I think, that utlity squid_ldap_group is in common squid package and it would be a matter of some compiling switch. This utility is usefull when you want to use LDAP groups in squid ACLs. Hello, I am sorry for my late answer but I did run a diagnostic with a Dell CD diagnostic tools. I wanted to have the result before posting. All test have passed on one computer Dell GX280. It has the latest Bios available and 1GB of Ram. > When you said you tried 3 different machines, where they all the same model? It was two Dell GX280 and one Dell GX150. We use a lot of these old hardware to build small web servers and remote admin sniffer. P.S. I will not able to do more test because I will be out of the office for the next two week (from today) Regards. 2010/8/12 Heiko Zuerker <he...@zu...>: > Hey, > > I agree that it may be hardware related (or a specific driver), since > nobody else see the same error. > When you said you tried 3 different machines, where they all the same model? > > Heiko > > Quoting Serge Leschinsky <fi...@in...>: > >> Hello, >> >> actually it's a memory-related error. Hey, I agree that it may be hardware related (or a specific driver), since nobody else see the same error. When you said you tried 3 different machines, where they all the same model? Hello, actually it's a memory-related error. Is it possible to play with HW? Update bios, replace memory modules etc. I'm pretty sure it will help. Hello, I did test the rc5 regarding the LVM issue and I receive the same errors. I use Dell Optiplex GX280. My problem turned out to be exacerbated by my having changed the user line in xinetd.conf at some point in the past from root to something else. Doh! The /etc/pam.d file has to be called samba, not swat, but otherwise your settings work for me. Thanks Heiko! Hey, attached you find the 2 files I use on my test vm. Not sure if the files are secure, they were good enough for testing. -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. |

Thanks Heiko, I think you are right about the problem being to do with pam.d, but I have tried a lot of settings for file /etc/pam.d/samba but I still have (different) authentication failures. The other files in /etc/pam.d all seem to have individual settings and I have tried lots of them! Does anyone have pam.d settings which can work for SWAT login under DL 1.4?
