[Devil-linux-develop] man pages

Hey,

I have more and more the problem, that I need access to man pages while I modify my running DL servers.
But I'm not sure if we should add the man pages to the system:
1. man has some security risks and some serious problems in the past
2. the size of the image would grow quite a bit (wouldn't be such a big problem, if we gzip all of them. Can man handle bz2?)

What do you think?

Well, one does not need manpages on the firewall me thinks. Just do an
ssh login to a system, that has the man pages and read them there.
That's what I do all the time.

About security risks, I cannot see how this could possibly be.

In the past I have written scripts to do man pages simply becuase similar man
pages exist in different directories under different numbers.

Over simplified: cat /usr/man/man1/<manpage> | nroff -man | more

It seems like a waste to put them in the SHMFS file system even though the
would   eventually get paged out to the swap area.

It would be nice if alternate tracks could be mounted as file systems, which
would be ideal since it is just documentation.

PS making latest ISO, thinking about creating a /opt directory for HD based
applications

Hmmm...I guess this statement on http://www.devil-linux.org/
