Maybe thttpd+stunnel would be interesting for a DL online config tool. http://www.acme.com/ |

Hmmmm...don't know if that's not a little bit of an overkill. I think that if we have a webserver on DL, various people can install their prefered script to manage portions of the system. Somehow an open framework. But if we can trim webmin it might also be a solution. Any ideas? -- MfG / Regards Friedrich Lobenstock |

Hi The www.acme.com site also includes a cli interface, something similar to webmin. Maybe the author could be encouraged to complete the project. More on webservers: One commonly needed use for a webserver is to run it as an httpd virtual host re-director as part of a firewall/router for single ip address sites with multiple webservers on the internal net. I think this is the page: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#namevirtualhost Apache 2 may have even more capabilities. From it: The NameVirtualHost directive is a required directive if you want to configure name-based virtual hosts. Although addr can be hostname it is recommended that you always use an IP address or wildcard, e.g. NameVirtualHost 111.22.33.44 With the NameVirtualHost directive you specify the IP address on which the server will receive requests for the name-based virtual hosts. This will usually be the address to which your name-based virtual host names resolve. In cases where a firewall or other proxy receives the requests and forwards them on a different IP address to the server, you must specify the IP address of the physical interface on the machine which will be servicing the requests. ## John The acme site seems to have a form of webmin, an "experimental" web cli, http://www.acme.com/cmd/ Maybe the author could be encouraged to finish this and package it with thttpd. The thttpd memory footprint seems almost too good to believe. The User-Build-System will be the key component for our adaptation. Since the
Linux Society seeks to develop a release that is both operational and
educational, we are very eager to get started.
At this point, I have about half-a-dozen developers wishing to start writing
boot scripts, especially hardware detection and disk/swap use.
I am personally interested developing a build system and deployment
documentation as part of our distributed paradigm.
The area of deployment we are interested in is the "single IP network" where a
single network connection supports a small enterprise. These would include
cafes, resturants, schools and other venues that seek to create an Internet
presence.
Apache 2 can support this for various web servers and port redirection systems
need to be developed for other services.
It is too bad that my "reverse engineering" attempt failed to produce a
bootable CD (the mount command had to be run twice to work), this would have
created a very simple user enhancement solution. I would still like to see why
this failed. Maybe corruption along the way...

The User-Build-System will just be a script, which creates an ISO with pre-build binaries. By this way, the user can select which packages he wants to have on the CD. > At this point, I have about half-a-dozen developers wishing to start writing > boot scripts, especially hardware detection and disk/swap use. We already have to build system, it just needs to be extended. Ok, the documentation part needs much more improvement. > > The area of deployment we are interested in is the "single IP network" where a > single network connection supports a small enterprise. That's already no problem, depending on what the DL Box should do. > Apache 2 can support this for various web servers and port redirection systems > need to be developed for other services. Apache will be included in a future release, the only question is when. I would like to have the User-Build-System in place first. > It is too bad that my "reverse engineering" attempt failed to produce a > bootable CD (the mount command had to be run twice to work), this would have > created a very simple user enhancement solution. There is absolutely no need for "reverse engineering", because of the build system we already have in place. -- cu Heiko We are Penguin, Resistance is futile! http://www.devil-linux.org |
