I have better luck saving my config to floppy or USB.
Saving to CD has never worked for me! ;-)

If you really wanted to have save-config save the user's home
directories, and you don't have anything private in root's home
directory, you might be able to create home directories under
/root/user1 /root/user2 /root/user3 ... (/root is saved)
BTW, you'd also have to "chmod 755 /root".
