That should be quite interesting.... This would also require some major changes to our init system, i.e. you would need network support in the initrd. I think it would be better to use a CF card or USB stick and implement a remote update (parts are already existing). -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org |

Our main challenge was to provide an up-to-date version of this useful tool, as reliable than the original. Our work started when we got the first AMD64 system. Unfortunatly, the original memtest v3.0 didn't run at all. After looking at the source code, we fixed the bug. After some days, I saw lot of other things like chipsets or CPU that were not correctly detected or not detected at all. As I'm the chief-editor of a french hardware website (www.x86-secret.com), I have access to lot of recent hardware and I can test and debug on quite all available motherboards on the market. After adding detection for all current CPUs, I've added detection for all current chipsets (SiS, VIA, nVidia, Intel) and ECC Polling for AMD64, i875P and E7205. Then, I decided to display some useful settings for the most popular chipsets. For exemple, on i865PE/i875P series, memtest 86+ will now display FSB & Memory frequency, PAT status, memory timings, ECC status and the number of memory channels. Next version will perhaps contain several enhancements and bug-fixes. > > wow!! we need it :) > So you volunteer to include it ? Heiko |

IRC, some time ago we talked about booting dl from network, using pxe or something like that. i keep thinking that this could be very useful (for example, when installing a storage server, or a web server you could keep hardware to a bare minimum, booting times would be faster and updates easier (just reboot the box and let's rock!) does anyone have the time and the skills to include all this packaged with easy instructions on the dist dir? :)) -- -- gnupg keyfingerprint -- 48AF 5BF9 8F54 2966 64CC 2327 7CD0 DD91 B09D 5799 -- Use of a keyboard or mouse may be linked to serious injuries or disorders. Feature Requests item #916889, was opened at 2004-03-15 21:14 Message generated for change (Settings changed) made by rapid2k1 You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410646&aid=916889&group_id=34096 Category: Packages Group: None >Status: Closed Priority: 5 Submitted By: Diego Torres (rapid2k1) Assigned to: Diego Torres (rapid2k1) Summary: add lufs or shfs Initial Comment: lufs has linux kernel 2.6 support, so should be more interesting to us. hower, shfs is lighter, faster and optimized. http://lufs.sourceforge.net/lufs/ LUFS is enabling you to mount into your file hierarchy a remote computer's file system, which is accessible by various means (ftp, ssh, etc.). Then, the access to the remote files will be completely network transparent. In other words, you'll be able to read/modify remote files as if they were local, watch movies/listen to MP3s from FTP/SSH/Gnutella servers without copying them locally. Sheer magic. Now skip to the next section. http://shfs.sourceforge.net/ "Mount ANY dir from ANY host in the SECURE way" SHFS is a simple and easy to use Linux kernel (2.4+) module which allows you to mount remote filesystems using plain shell (ssh/rsh) connection. It supports some nice features like number of different caches for access speedup, target system optimisations, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Diego Torres (rapid2k1) Date: 2004-03-21 03:08 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=367380 waiting for ftp upload of shfs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Diego Torres (rapid2k1) Date: 2004-03-21 03:08 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=367380 waiting for ftp upload ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410646&aid=916889&group_id=34096 |

I was using prism2_plx and not prism2_cs. I also knew I wasn't having any problems with prism2_cs on my gentoo box, but upon checking further, it is running an earlier version of linux-wlan-ng. I tried prism2_cs on my laptop with DL and also received the unresolved symbols. Beat me up with a hot poker for not paying more attention ;-) Martin |
