Dear Heiko, Since my attempts with backport encountered some problems, especially in the context of grsec, I wanted to ask you about the plans for the transition to the 3.14 kernel line - whether and, if so, when are you planning to upgrade? Maybe my efforts are completely unnecessary? Ready-backports does not compile with kernel 3.2.63 patched grsec smoothly. The least problems give backports of 3.10 if only for iwlwifi wireless. If successful, also would require source code analysis. Meanwhile, the line is 3.14 has grsec from some time and seems is selected to be the successor to the kernel line 3.2. I suspect that only you Could upgrade D-L to the kernel line 3.14 --- unless it requires a change in the compiler, and probably changes in the build environment. That's why I thought to ask you about the plans. Best regards -- Andrzej Odyniec |

Dears, Maybe someone tried to inject into the D-L kernel driver backports from a higher kernel series, eg. 3.17? If not, I will try. I need drivers to wlan cards 7600 series, but Intel supports this cards, it seems, from 3.10 or 3.11 line. It seems to me that the Intel architecture of 32-bit thing of the past. Putting ambitious http/php server rather will extend to 64-bit. So far, I think few people compiled mod_spyd (if at all someone). You did it once in 64-bits. Maybe this is the right approach to distinguish between the 32-bit from 64-bit contents of the packages? Andrzej It fails on my side too. I didn't catch it, since I didn't review the nightly compile logs in a while. Dear Heiko, In my build context last CVS is building OK on 64-bit machine, but not on 32-bit... there are compilation errors. My base system is D-L too, executed as VMware guest. Hi Heiko, this is an old mail I reply to. It has been of my radar for a long time, but now I need to rebuild my firewall and I run into some issues again so I just pick up where I left of the last time. >> 1. I replaced the line that has the rsync in the conntrack-tools script to: tar cf - doc/*/*.conf doc/*/*.sh doc/*/*/*README | (cd $ETCDIR/etc/conntrackd && tar xf - ) || exit 1 This does the same but doesn't need rsync. >> 2. Subject: [Devil-linux-develop] xHCI and USB boot problem on modern MBs Dear Heiko, We have a problem with booting and loading D-L configurations on modern motherboards (eg with Intel 87 series chipsets). There is no longer the old USB controllers, but only the new USB 3.0, requiring drivers xHCI-hcd. Meanwhile, the driver has EXPERIMENTAL status and by default is configured as a module CONFIG_USB_XHCI_HCD=m, while other usb host drivers are linked into the kernel. During the init script execution host driver is not loaded yet and on such motherboards init script is fail to find a boot image and/or configuration, if it is on USB mass storage. You could modify the init script in the initrd for load xhci-hcd driver explicite and add the apropriate host drivers to the initrd but probably easier and more systematic is to link xHCI controller driver into the kernel, changing CONFIG_USB_XHCI_HCD=m to CONFIG_USB_XHCI_HCD=y In my D-L compilations such change fixes the problem. Hey, Shouldn't we make the default policy to deny all traffic, so folks are actually forced to configure the firewall rules? I would hate them to get the impression that we provide a basic firewall script, just like we do for IPv4. Well, "brctl" is used by other services (like qemu), so we probably have to keep it in the system, but I doubt we need vconfig. > http://www.candelatech.com/~greear/vlan.html > > 802.1Q VLANs and MAC-VLANs can be created with the 'ip' utility (vconfig > works for vlans, but is crufty and deprecated). > > Just think to fix vconfig binary for next release :) > Well, it's one approach ... In my case (1.6.3 x86_64) seting up vlan interface with initscript
works, it's just I cannot setup vlan interface using vconfig by hand:
root@Devil:~ # cat /etc/sysconfig/nic/ifcfg-vlan650
# the base interface (see ifcfg-eth1.sample for configuration)
DEVICE=bond0
ONBOOT=yes
DHCP=no
#DHCP=yes
#DHCP=server
### note: 0 < vlanid < 4095
VLANID=650
[...]
root@Devil:~ # ifconfig |grep vlan
vlan650 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr f0:1f:af:ce:24:7c
The initscript seems to be already patched:
root@Devil:~ # grep "ip.*vlan" /etc/init.d/network
ip link add link $PHYDEV name $DEVICE type vlan id $VLANID
ip link del $DEVICE type vlan id $VLANID
Just think to fix vconfig binary for next release :)
Thanks for the quick answer.
Regards.

Hello,
I am trying to setup a firewall under Devil Linux 1.6.3.
When I try to run vconfig I get: "no such file or directory". An strace
mention the error occur once the command is call. I saw this kind of
behavior before when applications were linked against obsolete glibc.
Notice seting up vlan interface work from initscript.
Regards.

Frank, In the past we have solved this issue by actually changing the packages to use a directory within /etc/ (like the dhcp client software). That being said, having the ability to save other directories might actually not be a bad idea. Hi Serge, yes I didn't edit Makefile.build/.install. Now it starts, but configure comes up with an error. I did a complete build before so any libs (sqlite) are there, so I guess I have to dig deeper in the package source to see if I can fix this. Hi all, I am trying to add csync2 (file syncro) to DL; I have successfully built the entire DL. I have put the source tarball into the build/src directory and it unpacks in build/tmp I made scripts in build/scripts and build/scripts/configuration, and build/scripts/configuration/help so that I can see it in make menuconfig after make menuconfig, I have CONFIG_CSYNC2=y in the .config file, but the thing does not get built. (ie there is no tmp/LOGS/build/csync2) When I try to compile it manually in the chrooted environment, it fails, complaining about libsqlite not being there, which is part of DL Where am I going wrong/what am I missing? TIA Regards, Frank |

Hello Heiko, "Heiko Zuerker" <he...@zu...> writes: > Before I add it, just a couple of questions: > > How's bird different from quagga? Two main differences: - BIRD has a more "system", less "network" approach to its configuration: to reconfigure it, just edit bird.conf and send it SIGHUP (Quagga has a more Cisco-like "change the live config through the CLI then save it" approach). - More important, from my limited experience, BIRD tends to be less buggy than Quagga, particularly when using OSPFv3. Quagga's ospf6d has been described by its authors as "alpha/beta quality" and this is quite close to the truth. > What's the benefit with having both in DL? Choice. :-) >From our point of view, we are currently switching from Quagga to BIRD so it would be easier to have it in DL. If you don't want to ship both I will have to maintain a separate patch; I can perfectly understand this. I can't promise I will track upstream BIRD releases closely as we don't tend to upgrade our DL boxes very often. -- Arnaud |
