I just started using the Dev-C++ 4.9.9.1 a few days ago and am really liking it. My question is when I go the the check for updates/packages it gives me all sorts of things to update. Do I need all of them if I just downloaded the newest version?

The only updates you really should download are:
(1) Help File Stuff
(2) Your language file
Now, many of the updates are contributed packages that allow you to do neat things with graphics and other "neat" stuff. (They are called Dev Packs) - You can play with tyhem as you have interest.

Thanks Wayne but I tryed to update the help file but after it downloaded I clicked ok to install and a popup said: Could not move file: C:\windows\temp\~wu5100.tmp to C:\Dev-cpp\packages\devcpphelp.devpak
any suggestions?

Thanks Marek that worked it downloaded and installed perfectly. Do you know if It is possible to download an older update version than I have and if so would it hurt anything?

I downloaded the newest version of Dev-C++ about a week ago and as soon as I downloaded and installed it I checked for updates and there was alot there. so I thought that some of the updates I was receiving may have been for older versions and if I tried to install them I would be installing an older version then the one that I downloaded with the new program Version 4.9.9.1 Maybe there is just a lot of new things coming out within a week. Hope I'm explaning my question right. Thanks

there shouldn't be much more updates than for your old dev-c++ than for the new one. actually there are no separate updates for older version or for newer versions. maybe the problem is that updates are mixed with other optional devpaks. the only things recommended to update is your dev-c++, debug info if you have one, and packman. other updates may be help files, languages, and the mingw system - gcc, g++, make, gdb, etc. The rest is optional - download it when you need it, you can always uninstall it with packman and again it will show up in webupdate list.

I want to thank you and Wayne for your help. Its nice to be able to go to a forum and get help from people that are truely interested in helping you. I give you and Dev_C++ an A+

it was a known bug with dev-c++ when you run on win9x. overwrite your devcpp.exe with this latest cvs build and you should be fine: http://www.castlesofpoland.com/dev-cpp/devcpp.exe
Also what would happen if I downloaded a update that was older than the one I already have? Thanks again
