Prompted by a questioner, I found this this evening (yes I am slow) that 4.9.7.1 is available. I used VUpdate to get it, and things still work.
No uninstalling needed. Cool.

  This is what I always do. I have not had any of the problems stated lately regarding the different versions of gcc.
