    Hello,

To me it looks like the Dev-c++ project became inactive after the version 5 beta release in 2005. Does anyone know of any reason why this happened?
I've been a happy user for quite a long time, until last year I realized that this project is no longer under active development. It's not that the IDE is that mature that it is impossible to think of new features, it isn't even that stable (crashes are no exception).

    greetings,
    Glenn

The derivative wxDev-C++ is active. http://wxdsgn.sourceforge.net/

Reasons why it is not active perhaps:
      * The author has other priorities.
      * The users are C/C++ programmers but the tool is written in Delphi, making recruiting developers hard.
      * No compelling reason to use it in preference to Eclipse/CDT, VC++ Express, or even Code::Blocks (only one of these has a decent debugger).

With respect to this last point, wxDev-C++'s support for native Win32 GUI 'visual' development with a cross-platform class library differentiates it from these other projects significantly enough to make it viable even in the face of free .NET/Windows forms tools from MS. The debugger still sucks of course!

I agree that the IDE could use some new features, and it does have its share of bugs, but I've never seen it actually crash. What are you doing when that happens?
