One of the biggest barriers to developing Dev-C++ (or wxDev-C++ for that matter) is the fact that any interested C++ developers have to use a different language (Delphi) and a commercial tool to get involved. Why would C++ developers want to use Delphi!? This and the Borland, no Inprise, no CodeGear, no Embarcadero or whatever they are called this week confusion! It is no wonder Dev-C++ is dying a slow and painful death.
However, perhaps there is a possibility of resuscitation. Has anyone tried building the source using the Turbo Delphi from the free TurboExplorer range? http://www.turboexplorer.com/
Or perhaps a more interesting prospect, since TurboExplorer C++ Turbo can also build Delphi code, can that be used - holding out the possibility of developing additional code in C++.
Unfortunately the biggest limitation of these tools is that they cannot use 3rd party components. I have never looked at the source so I don't know what its dependencies are.
Anyway, just a thought. Anybody got spare time enough to try it, and some good ideas for new features? I vote for better debugger integration.
