(1) Using version 4 is a bad idea. It has not been maintained for 6 or 7 years.
Do not let the beta title fool you - the current release of Dev is the 5 series.
(2) Vista caused some significant issues for MinGW. There is a section in the
"Please read Before Posting a Question" thread that discusses these issues and
shows you how to set some paths to get around them.

when i click on compile i get a message: g++: installation problem, cannot exec `cpp': No such file or directory.

so i now downloaded the newestr version and now all is good. i downloaded the version from bloodsheet.net.
ok i have version number 4 an mingwcompiler 2.95. My OS is Vista.
this comes on a easy hello world programm.
