    I have installed DevC++ 4.9.6.0 into the standard directories on my NT4 machine. The first time I the use Tools->check for updates the vUpdate upgraded itself now when I use it I get an error:

    Error: devcpp.cfg not found. Please check to make sure this file is in your root Dev-C++ directory in windows 9x class system or in your application data directory on NT class systems.

    Example: c:\docume~1\user\Local settings\application data

    <end of error message>

    I then searched for devcpp.ini and I found it in
    C:\WINNT\Profiles\BUICKR\Local Settings\Application Data

    I am farly sure that wi where it should be, is my problem a bug with vUpdate or the way I use devc++?

    Thanks

      The same thing has happened to me. I have it working with an XP system but I cannot get vUpdate to work with my NT4 system.
      I have tried copying both devcpp.cfg & devcpp.ini into my NT profiles Application Data directory but I still get the error.

      My siuation is even worse than yours.
      I am using Windows 2000 on a network on campus. Saving files into c:\Documents and Setting\... is denied. So every time I start devC++, I'll have to reset all the settings.

      I hope they will let the users to determine where to put the config files on the next version.

      I was against this idea from the very beginning actually. I knew it would cause problems. It is best just to keep configs in the root dev directory. Then have an option to save and load config files from floppy (as that is best for students in campus enviroment).
