I prefer Anim8or to blender. It's simpler, but more effective in my opinion. It has a better, more intuitive interface (man, I hate the blender interface... I keep clicking, but nothing's happening! Hmm... What mode am I in? Oh, squiggly line; yeah, I think I need to switch to amorphous blob... maybe.), can process far more polygons at a more efficient rate, and, of course, animation is a breeze (though it can be somewhat stilted at times). The only real drawback that I know of is that it doesn't have that really cool feature in blender where you can paint directly to the model. There might be some other stuff, I didn't use blender that much. -Striker >(i'm still pretty bad with blender. its pretty cool though. i seriously >suggest downloading it (its free!), and some tuts.. i have a good URL >for the tuts if anyone wants them. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx |

Yes! I have learned that Anim8or can work on Linux! Hi guys, I'm really, really sorry I haven't been in touch or around lately. Work is kicking my ass at the moment. I still haven't got a replacement motherboard at this point, these people are really shitting me off. Consequently I can't really do any 3D stuff (which is basicly what you need) at the moment. However if you want to send me some 2D type work to do I'll happily plug away at it until my motherboard comes :-(. As for your message <snip> >also, ive been trying to learn blender. its actually quite powerfull >once you get to know how to use it properly, but unfortunately, i have >not yet the skill to make a simple house (i did, but it looked crap, and >then i accidentally deleted the roof, and i couldn't find an undo >button). Blender is not to shabby and its FREE !! heh. Seriously though I found the interface to be a bit of a bitch. At least it has a fairly reliable 3D Max plugin :-). <snip> >(i'm still pretty bad with blender. its pretty cool though. i seriously >suggest downloading it (its free!), and some tuts.. i have a good URL >for the tuts if anyone wants them. It is not to bad considering it's freeware. I do however still prefer 3D Max for low polly stuff (stills and animations). However for the high quality 3D work you have to have Maya. It's a pain to go from Maya to Max but the work you can produce in Maya is phenomonal (sp?) compared to the chunky tools of Maya. But as you may or may not know, both packages are ridiculosly (sp?) expensive and are dificult to learn ..... OK, you want info? you got it! we need 6 pictures in total, 2 for each char. The portraits are to be 134 by 148 in dimension. That can be changed a little BTW, in fact, so long as the total width of ALL THREE pictures is less than 550, and their height is less than 200, we can fit them in somehow. So yeah, two pictures, one should be sort of darkened out, not showing much detail, but still visible as a character you can click on. The other should be nice and light, with the words "ELF", or whatever above their heads (or below them, really does not matter). Does not have to include their whole body, in fact it probably shouldn't, because the actual character sprites are bound to look different from the portraits... which is a good reason for you not doing these now....hmmm... any ideas?? -- "Avoid the Gates of Hell. If the characters haven't been done yet then any character portrait I do can be used as a basis for them. Hell I might even dust the old sketching skills off and do a few full body drawings :-P I just need to know the types of characters and what not ... ok, heres what i have done tonight. it will probably end up being a section of wall for some area or another. it is unfinished. the textures need more work, the lighting needs to be done properly, and the camera angle needs to be positioned correctly. Then i need to render it on high quality, and then convert it to the dink palette. bearing all the above in mind, what do you think?? the overall shape will probably change over time...hmmmm.... -- The software required Win95 or better, so I installed Linux.
